THE TEAM
The Heart Behind the Restoration
We bring decades of professional expertise in law, finance, development, communications, and community organizing. But more than credentials, we bring personal legacy. Many of us have family stories intertwined with the very blocks we're restoring. This isn't just a job—it's our responsibility to the ancestors who came before and the generations who will inherit what we build today.
Nyala Thompson
Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Nyala Thompson brings a diverse background in mentorship, technology, and property management to her work with Williams & Russell CDC. Throughout her career, she has developed a strong foundation in relationship-building, organizational leadership, technology, and managing properties and operations. Her experience working with people and navigating complex operational needs allows her to approach community-centered work with both a practical perspective and a genuine commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for others.
While Nyala is not a resident of Portland’s historic Albina neighborhood, she has grown deeply fond of the community, its history, and its cultural significance. She believes that the people and legacy of Albina deserve to be recognized, protected, and given the opportunity to thrive. Nyala is passionate about seeing justice restored to the neighborhood and is proud to contribute to efforts that support housing, economic opportunity, community development, and the restoration of a vibrant business hub for Black Portlanders.
Through her work with Williams & Russell CDC, Nyala hopes to use her experience, skills, and commitment to mentorship and community development to help advance meaningful and lasting change in Albina and beyond.
Every decision we make is guided by Black vision, Black values, and Black community voice. This is what it looks like when we control our own healing.
